Former Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Against 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have stated that a former physician has been charged with performing sexual assaults against thirty-eight victims who were under his care.
The Serious Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – comprising acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.
A senior CPS official stated, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
The Investigation
These allegations follow what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences he is charged with:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- 17 counts of penetrative assault.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
